With palm branches and song, followers of Jesus welcomed him into Jerusalem, but it wasn’t long before the triumphal march was met with, what looked like, defeat. The one in whom they’d put their trust was crucified and buried in a borrowed tomb and buried with him was their hope.
While followers of Jesus wept and victory seemed impossible now, an unseen battle was being fought, one that was disarming the powers of darkness, soon to set captives free. The couple on the road to Emmaeus couldn’t recognize him; Mary thought He was the gardener…until the light of His words penetrated their hearts.
How quickly things changed from the victory march (represented by the palm branches) to the crucifixion and darkened skies. I’m thinking, today, about the speed with which all our lives have changed. In a few days we’ve gone from worshiping in the church of our choice to being restricted to our homes. This Sunday is Palm Sunday, and most will be worshiping at home on the internet with their families as large gatherings are banned.
Here in Bulike, however, this won’t be possible as there is little to no access to internet in the villages. Please pray with us as we do home visits to keep the people encouraged and the word of the Lord lifted up. It is this word that lights the path to victory and peace. It is our palm branch! Right now, you may be facing seemingly impossible conditions. I understand, and we will walk through this time together. With God all things are possible.
We would love to hear from you during this time. Please reach out to us with specific prayer requests, for while I will not be there in person this spring, there is no distance in prayer. You are more to me, to UCSS, than a supporter. You are our friend and partner in His service. So, let us be strong in the Lord and the power of His might, putting on the full armor of God so that we can stand up against the evil one. We are praying for you daily.
