“What We Believe”

God

There is one and only one living and true God who is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal being as revealed in Scripture as the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is all-powerful and all-knowing. The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, yet without division of nature, essence, or being (Genesis 1:1-2; Genesis 1:26; Isaiah 9:6; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 3:17; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Mark 1:10-11; Luke 1:35; Matthew 28:19; 1 John 5:7)

The Bible

The Holy Bible, written by men who were divinely inspired by God, reveals who God is by the person of Jesus Christ, thereby communicating the nature of God and his plan for humankind. It contains the supreme standard by which mankind should live with God as its author revealing the way of salvation and truth without any error therein. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Hebrews 4:12; John 1:1-5; Psalms 119:105; James 1:22; Psalms 119:9, Isaiah 40:8, Luke 11:28; Mathew7:24)

Mankind

Mankind is the special creation of God, made in the image of God, and created male and female as the crowning work of His creation. In the beginning mankind was innocent, yet with their free will transgressed the command of God, known as the fall of mankind, and from that act sin entered into the human race, separating man from God. Christ died for every person of every race, and through faith in His death, burial, and resurrection, holy fellowship can be restored and God’s purpose for each individual can be fully realized. (Genesis 1:26; John 3:16; Ephesians 2:10; Genesis 9:6; Genesis 5:1; Colossians 3:10; 2 Corinthians 3:18; 1 Corinthians 11:7; Hebrews 1:3; Romans 8:9; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 4:24; Psalm 139:13-14)

Salvation

We believe God created people free from sin, but because of Adam’s fall each individual is born in sin. Therefore, salvation of all man must come about by the work of regeneration of the Holy Spirit and is not achieved by man’s efforts.  Each individual must place their faith in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ as the atoning work for the forgiveness of sin. This Salvation is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal life for the believer. In its broadest sense, salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. (Romans 10:9-10; Genesis 1:27; 3:6-24; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 53:6; Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 5:22-33; 1 John 4:19-20; John 3:3, 16; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Acts 16:30-31; Acts 4:12; Mathew 6:9-13; Mathew 9:6-8; Matthew 19:25-26; 2 Timothy 1:9; Psalm 62:1; 2 Peter 3:9; Titus 2:11-12; Hebrews 9:28)

The Church

A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the Gospel, observing the two ordinances of Christ (The Lord’s Supper and Baptism), governed by His laws, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word, and seeking to extend the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Each congregation operates under the Lordship of Christ with its scriptural leaders being pastors. While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor is limited to men as qualified by Scripture. The New Testament speaks also of the church as a United Body of Christ which includes all of the redeemed of all the ages, believers from every tribe, and tongue, and people, and nation. (Romans 12:4-5; 1 Corinthians 12:12–27; Ephesians 3:6, 4:15–16, 5:23; Colossians 1:18, 1:24; Ephesians 4:4; John 2:19-22; Romans 15:5-6; 1 Corinthians 1:10; Acts 4:32; Galatians 3:28)

Marriage

We believe that God created both Man and Woman in His own image and blessed them and charged them to be fruitful and multiply and to fill the earth and govern it. Hence, we believe that a godly marriage is a gift from God between two consenting adults of the opposite sex, one male and one female. (Genesis 1:27-28; Genesis 2:24, Mark 10:9; Malachi 2:14-15; Song of Songs 8;6-7; Ephesians 5:22-33; 1Corithians7:2; Matthew 19:4-6; Proverbs 18:22; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians:1-16; Colossians 3:18-19)

Baptism by Immersion

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior – the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to his faith in the final resurrection of the dead. (Matthew 3:6.13-17; John 3:23; Acts 2:38-41; Acts 8:12; Matthew 28:19)

The Lord’s Supper

The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act of obedience whereby believers, through partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine, memorialize the death of the Redeemer and anticipate His second coming. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26; Luke 22:17-20; Matthew 26:26-29; John 6:53-54; 1 Corinthians 10:17)

The resurrection of the Dead

We believe in the resurrection of the Dead, for Christ shall return to judge both the living and the Dead.  They that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation. (Revelation 20:12-15; 21:1-3; 2 Thessalonians 1:9-12, 1 Corinthians 15:12-55, Luke 12:46-48; Romans 14:10-12; 2 Corinthians 5:10)

PRAYER

Prayer is essential for determining God’s will and direction in ministry.

Prayer helps us deal with opposition .There will be spiritual opposition to the expansion of God’s kingdom through UCSS. Ephesians 1:18;6:8, Colossians 1:9-12, 11 chronicles 7:14

Prayer is an essential part of the task of spiritual warfare –spiritual warfare will occur in UCSS;s ministry and growth. The discipline of prayer helps us access our spiritual inheritance

Prayer promotes humility and godly relationship

NB: This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs.  The Bible, as the inspired Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe.
