An Education Update from Bulike and Buluya
Hold on to instruction, do not let it go;
Proverbs 4:13
guard it well, for it is your life.
While in the States, I know many of you have someone you love graduating this month. I also know that it is happening in ways none were planning on at the beginning of the year. Please know that we are praying for you and all of your students.
Here in Uganda, the pandemic hit during our first term, and students had only begun their new school year.
They have been at home with their parents for three months now, and it is very difficult for most; your prayers and support are greatly needed.
To help overcome the difficulties this is causing, our teachers have divided up and are doing home visits, passing out learning materials, and counseling with students and families. Many parents, however, are illiterate and unable to help their children, so follow-up visits are very important. Sadly, we have also found that some students are choosing to work the sugarcane fields instead of reading and studying. The video at the end of this email tells one student’s story, yet it represents so many.
Still, our teachers are unified and determined to reach as many students as possible since many are discouraged and fearful of not being able to return to school.
Please agree with us in prayer for the faith of our youth and the hope of the families to rise up and hold on to the promise that God will complete the work that he has started.
We know this because God is moving in the hearts of our friends and partners, and we just received the funds to finish the girls’ dormitory, a ray of promise amidst many obstacles. Also, we can report that the health of our students is remaining strong, and I thank all those who donated toward the purchase of soap. What a blessing. Once this lockdown is over, we look forward to healthy children once again filling our schools.
In summary, we are facing setbacks, but we are not giving up.
The teachers and staff are working as a team for the future of our students. They have even been working to weed the corn in the school gardens during this period when students are not in class. Engineers and plumbers in and around the high school are continuing work on the latrine; operations and accounting are planning and revising ways to pay school debts, and overseers and data specialists are continually looking for better ways to get the learning material to the students until they can meet again.
We are praising God for his mercy and protection, and we thank God for our mighty prayer warriors and supporters throughout the United States.
We are so thankful for the likemindedness we share in this mission, especially the educating of our children. While your school year is ending, ours is just beginning, and friends, it’s been a rough start. You can help by helping us reach our goal of 220 sponsored students in 2020. $25 per month or $300 per year changes a life forever. What an encouragement for a student to hear on their next home visit that they’ve been sponsored. The links below will take you to our secure site.
