Dear friends,
As I asked the Lord what to share with you this week, the phrase “except a kernel of wheat” kept coming to my mind. That kernel of wheat or that seed of corn, if left sitting in a bucket, will remain a single seed, but if it is planted in the ground where it will die, then it brings life in the form of the blade, the stalk, and the ear of corn, enabling whole fields to be planted and produce food. But, there has to be a plan.
When UCSS came to Bulike, the ground was hard and overgrown, and the hearts of the people were just as fallow; there was no hope in their eyes. They would plant, but drought, or flood, or pestilence would destroy it before it could produce. There was no plan and no to way make one. We knew this was not God’s plan. He was that life-giving kernel who died, was buried, and raised to life, so that whosever would believe could also have life. God’s eye was on Bulike and Buluya.
It’s been nearly 12 years, and I thank God that many reading this today also saw this field as ready for cultivation by the unconditional love of God, a field that with the fertilization of truth and watering by the word of God would become a great harvest. Today I wanted to share this video from one of the UCSS farms of which donors have made possible with their support. To see the people learning, working, planting, and reaping! – well, there are no words to express my gratitude. Without you, none of this would be happening.
In fact, UCSS friends have made possible 10 model farms like the one you see in this video. Thus, making it possible for so many people to learn a skill that makes them able to become self-sustaining communities, vibrantly living out the gospel. If you are not already, would you become a UCSS Lifer with your monthly support of any amount? This is what is needed most to keep the day-to-day operations of our farms, our schools, our churches, and our medical facilities on track. May God’s continued blessings be upon you as you work in His field.
