Persevering Under Trial

Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him .

James 1:12
Dr. Ronald addresses UCSS leaders prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We are now many weeks into this pandemic, and we are all feeling the strain. Dr. Ronald, Ronah, the girls are still quarantined in Kampala; resources are scarce and prices have skyrocketed. Yet, in Bulike, we can tell you what your presence there, by way of your faithful prayers and support, is doing. Before the travel ban was in place, Dr. Ronald was able to get together with many of the leaders and ministry teams and encourage them in their faith and in the skills and training they have had, assuring them they are prepared for such a time as this.

Life is going forward in the villages you support in spite of our schools being closed and church meetings suspended. Yet, fears of Covid19 are real. Because of your help, however, families are better able to follow the CDC guidelines. Food and supplies are scarce, yet we continue to pray and stand in faith.

Still, this quarantine is proving that our goal of self-sufficiency is working. In the past, an epidemic like this would have meant certain death for most, but many families have been growing their own food, and our wells are providing fresh water. Most importantly, many are now trusting daily in the living God.

However, the need for your support has not diminished, and, in fact, is even more dire. Several have asked how they can help at this time. As the video explained, the need for soap is ongoing. It is expensive and most cannot afford it. If this is something you might prayerfully consider helping us with, it would go a long way in keeping this virus from spreading.

Likewise, the need for fresh water is ongoing and is the key to survival here. Our goal to dig 13 more wells is still in place, and we have been given permission to continue drilling in Bulike and nearby villages as long as we maintain 5 people per team, following in place protocols.

Now is the time for UCSS to make progress in this area in spite of this current dilemma. While others cannot travel long distances to drill, we can go into the nearby communities for this purpose. What an opportunity to bring the water of life to so many. If we had more resources for this, we could drill more wells now.

May God’s grace abound to you more and more, and may your endurance have its perfect result, making you complete, lacking in nothing (James 1:4).
