When There’s No Peace of Mind

Where do you turn when there is no peace of mind?

There is an often forgotten and unseen need that is also
a part of UCSS; it is the “C” – the counseling aspect of this mission. As I
prayed about how to present this to you, this scripture came to mind:

The spirit of a man can endure his sickness, but who can
survive a broken spirit? Proverbs 18:14

You and all my UCSS partners have made so many things
possible from providing fresh water and medical care that has saved countless
lives during this pandemic – to enabling us to teach and train families to grow
their own food and survive during this worldwide crisis. They’ve endured thanks
to these services you have provided.

Oftentimes, however, many walk around with a broken
spirit that gets overlooked, mislabeled, or worse. Children especially struggle
with internal thoughts and fears, and without someone to pray with and counsel
them through it, they become paralyzed in their mind and are left feeling
hopeless.

Nancy (name changed for privacy) was about to drop out of
school and her mother was struggling with high blood pressure feeling powerless
to change the situation. The mother and daughter in these photos were helped by
a counselor that you have helped us train. There are still so many others yet
unreached, and with your prayers and support, UCSS trained counselors will help
them survive and overcome this silent infirmity.

So, as we go forward in this new year, it is my prayer that you will help us pray for our UCSS Mental Health Counselors as they, too, go out into the highways and hedges, seeking those who are suffering in a way that only the Spirit of God can reveal and touch. We are determined to reach them and show them the unconditional love of God. In these trying times in which we find ourselves, may we all pray first and often, so that God’s peace may steady our hearts and minds.

In Christ’s Name,

Ronald
